Biography
Nelson Mandela was a man of great integrity because he fought for equal rights in South Africa by making alliances with trade unions, fighting off his oppressors, and by working against apartheid. Mandela was a revolutionary. Born Rolihlahla Mandela on July 18th, 1918 in South Africa, he always knew that he would have to fight for what he believed in. Nelson Mandela received over 200 awards, one which was the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to him and South African President F.W. de Klerk in 1993 for joint peace making. In 1994 he was inaugurated as South Africa's first black president. Mandela died in Johanneburg on December 5, 2013. He was 95 years-old.
